Singer and multi-instrumentalist Daby Touré has already traveled quite an odyssey in his young life. He was born in 1971 in the desert of Mauritania, then left with his father for the capital Nouakchott, then Senegal followed, eventually ending up in Paris. In the French capital, the young musician became addicted to jazz. The musical repercussions of those wanderings can be heard on Stereo Spirit.
As on his debut album Diam, Touré's music easily nestles between African and Western pop. Touré's vocals are reminiscent of Youssou N'Dour, not least because of the shared language. With his western heroes Stevie Wonder and Bob Marley, Touré shares the talent of creating songs that are as calm as they are radio-friendly. Baye and Setal are the best examples of Touré's unique sound. (PdK)more
