Bayuba Cante's debut album is out. The founder of the band, the Turkish-Dutch Sjahin During became fascinated by the complex Afro-Cuban rhythms and centuries-old songs, and in collaboration with the Chilean-Dutch singer Leoni Santander an international group was formed consisting of musicians from the Netherlands, Cuba, Chile, Malta, Iran and Turkey. As mixed as the composition is, so mixed is the
… music. Most of the repertoire on the debut album "Cheba" is based on Afro-Cuban Yoruba music and mixes it with Native American music, flamenco and jazz, according to the specializations of the individual musicians. Bayuba Cante plays true world music, respects the old but also creates new music at the same time. Beautiful glass-pure polyphonic vocals, Afro-Cuban and jazzy swinging rhythms and beautiful timbre combinations. They already performed successfully at the Midzomergrachtenfestival in Utrecht, but we will hear from them more often. (SvdP) _more
