The musical brain behind Adiemus is Karl Jenkens (once Soft Machine). In 1995 his special, atmospheric music was noticed for being used in an advertisement for Delta Airlines. "Dances of time" is his third CD on which he again collaborates with singer Miriam Stockley. Just like on previous CDs, she also knows how to give the music an angelic atmosphere on this CD. New are six Finnish singers whom
… he met in the summer of 1997 during a concert in Helsinki. The London Philharmonic Orchestra is also back on this album. The leitmotif running through the compositions is dance through the ages. Jenkins goes back to the oldest known dance, the Italian pavane, from the 16th and 17th century and the 18th century minuet. In compositions like "Ka ya ka koo ya" and "African dance" he was inspired by dances from Latin America such as rumba and tango. In "Un bolero azul" Jenkins interweaves his music with that of Ravel's "Bolero" and "Ein wiener walzer" seems to be based on Strauss's waltzes. (CK) _more
