The new generation of Tuareg rockers does more than rock and conjure. The six members of Imarhan were still at school in Algeria when the uncle of one of them made an international breakthrough with the Tinariwen group, putting the desert blues on the map. Young Imarhan watched and listened carefully to , but also to Western music. The raw blues guitar remained, just like the trance-evoking African
… rhythms. But in addition, Imarhan does not shy away from elements from disco, funk and pop music, including more melodically developed singing and harmony vocals. Where their mentors came straight from wars and exchanged guns for guitars, the members of Imarhan grew up more peacefully. Their music lacks anger and protest, but preaches global unity. They love nothing more than to tour the world with their more stylized, but no less catchy desert rock. (MR)more
