Helmut Lotti once started as a sound mixer with Henny Huisman. The then timid Belgian imitated Elvis Presley in a creditable way. He has since released two Dutch and two English-language albums that were very successful in Belgium but were hardly noticed in our country. The big breakthrough in the Netherlands came in 1995 with Helmut Lotti Goes Classic, three of which have since been released with
… well-known classical melodies. Anyone who thinks they have purchased a CD with Romantic with new songs will be disappointed. Many of the songs on Romantic were already on the previously released albums Memories (1993) and Just for you (1995) and are given a second chance on this CD. As the title suggests, with the exception of the jazzy I Won't Be Alone, this album is accompanied by a large big band, atmospheric songs of which Lotti himself wrote a number and compositions by Will Tura, Bobby Gentry and Adamo. We also hear his imitation of Hurt by Elvis Presley. (CK)more
