By 1965 The Beatles were immensely popular, much to the chagrin of Frank Sinatra. He hated rock and roll, and not just because the young pop stars didn't know how to dress like gentlemen. Also because he himself held out against it. But Sinatra wouldn't be Sinatra if he just managed to transform that weakness into his strength. 'The Voice' was on the eve of its fiftieth birthday. He had been in the
… music industry for thirty tropical years. It was high time that this experience and wisdom were reflected in his music. He approached arranger Gordon Jenkins, and together they looked for songwriters who could provide 'mid-life tunes'. It worked. The contemplative lyrics of this album were Sinatra's tanned body. It Was A Very Good Year even became one of his favorite songs. And from his audience, because Sinatra was again warmly received with September Of My Years. With that, the written-off singer experienced an impressive restart. (PdK)more
