All well and good, such a comeback album with big rock stars (Last Man Standing, 2006). But who wants to prove that he is still upright, of course does so on stage. The title of the CD and now this DVD refers to the famous Million Dollar Quartet, of which Lewis is the last survivor after the death of Elvis Presley, Carl Perkins and Johnny Cash. Anyone who expected at the beginning of his career that
… the self-destructive singer would still be on stage at the age of 70 had probably been considered crazy. That alone makes Last Man Standing a special DVD. Although Lewis is clearly not the youngest anymore, he has a good voice and proves in the ambiguous chats in between that he has not yet forgotten his tricks. Inspired guest appearances from Tom Jones, John Fogerty, Solomon Burke, Norah Jones, Willie Nelson, Kris Kristofferson and Don Henley it is not boring for a moment. A plus: not only his rock 'n roll work but also the country & western repertoire is extensively covered, a genre in which Lewis excels. (MS)more
