The Amsterdam singer, pianist and lyricist Maarten van Roozendaal and his regular companions Egon Kracht (double bass) and Marcel de Groot (guitar) received the Poelifinario 2008 for the theater program Het Wilde Westen. Van Roozendaal's subsequent theater concert really worked out by playing highlights from his oeuvre and new material in a traditional band. Richard Heijerman (drums), Nico Brandsen
… (Hammond) and Wouter Planteisjes (guitar) reinforced the trio. It is fascinating to hear how some of Van Roozendaal's songs are given a different meaning in a different arrangement or come into their own with a more solid accompaniment. The solid beat in Goon makes it a humorous rap song and De Beer Is Los is now an extroverted uplifting song with funky accents. It doesn't matter whether it concerns old or new material, Van Roozendaal makes fascinating new creations together with his friends. (SvdP)more
