On February 24, 2009 it was exactly a quarter of a century ago that Frans Halsema died of throat cancer at the age of 44. This date was a great occasion to release a compilation album to keep the collective memory of this charming and cheerful personality alive. Halsema's only son Marijn thought the album title Springlevend was a daring but very striking expression of his father's positive attitude
… to life. Halsema started his career initially as a musical accompanist and later as a singer / cabaret performer with various cabaret companies (Cabaret Lurelei, ABC-Cabaret, later also solo programs) and has also become known for radio and television work such as Parlando, Italic and large-scale television shows with indoor and foreign artists. Sound researcher Piet Tullenaar found previously unknown recordings of Halsema in the archives of Sound and Vision. On the double album Springlevend, the first disc contains Halsema's classics such as Voor Haar, Sandra and Vlucht Kan Niet Meer; the second disc contains 23 previously unreleased recordings. Springlevend is a nice tribute to a warm personality. (SvdP)more
