The Brabant troubadour Gerard van Maasakkers has been working on the road since the 1970s, first with English and Dutch-language work. He soon started writing lyrics in his regional language, inspired by local folk music. Over the years, he has grown into a well-known Brabander, not least because of his job as a program maker for Omroep Brabant. In 2003 Gerard is accompanied on records and during
… performances by De Vaste Mannen, a closely playing company of experienced musicians. On Volle Dagen he is in top form in ten melancholic songs, each of which stands out for its compositional and musical craftsmanship. In addition, Maasakkers appears to have a well-developed empathy, he aptly describes a lonely widower (Mee En Dan) and Benny struggling with his budding homosexuality. On two songs, Van Maasakkers is assisted by that other famous Brabant troubadour: JW Roy. (MS)more
