Bohemios by the Spanish composer and writer Amadeo Vives (1871-1932) is actually not an opera, but a zarzuela. A zarzuela is a Spanish drama in which song and dance are alternated with spoken dialogue. The story is based on a book by Henri de Murger and tells about the life of the Bohemian in Paris around 1840. This theme has previously been the subject of two operas by Puccini and Leoncavallo (La
… BohÞme, from 1896 and 1897 respectively) . In contrast to the sad ending of Puccini's opera, this zarzuela ends much better. This performance is by the Orquesta Sinfonica de Tenerife conducted by Antoni Ros Marba, with Maria Bayo and Luis Lima in the roles of Cossette and Roberto.more
