The new live recording of Johannes Brahms' four symphonies by the Berliner Philharmonicer conducted by Nikolaus Harnoncourt is more than just another performance of this well-known music. To create his vision of these orchestral works, Harnoncourt studied not only the original manuscripts and first printed editions, but also the old orchestral parts of the great orchestras, such as the Vienna
… Philharmonic and the Berlin Philharmonic. This edition also includes performances of the "Haydn Variationen", the "Tragische Ouvertüre" and the "Akademische Festouvertüre". Simultaneously with this release, a live recording, conducted by the same conductor, appeared of Brahms' "Concerto for Violin and Orchestra" and the "Concerto for Violin, Cello and Orchestra". The orchestra in this performance is the Concertgebouw Orchestra and the soloists are violinist Gidon Kremer and cellist Clemens Hagen. (HJ) ___more
